For the past few months, we’ve been working on a delicious new experience. We’re excited to launch our Old Chinatown Food Tour which takes place along the stretch of Dundas West and Spadina.
There are approximately six Chinatown’s in the Greater Toronto area including in Markham and Mississauga. However, we wanted to highlight the area of Old Chinatown since it’s one of the oldest neighbourhoods where the Chinese community has retained such a strong influence over the years.
Following the demolition of the first Chinatown to make way for Toronto City Hall during the 1960s, most of the Chinese community migrated westward into this neighbourhood. Alongside a wave of immigrants from Hong Kong, the area quickly evolved into the downtown’s primary Chinatown with a bustling commercial and residential presence. Today, the neighbourhood still remains its cultural roots despite the threat of gentrification alongside a growing population of Vietnamese, Thai, and other Southeast Asia descendants.
On this tour we provide a series of tastings from food shops, eateries, and family-style restaurants to give guests a greater appreciation of the neighbourhood’s diverse culinary background.
So come and join us on this sumptuous feast!
