Toronto has many great public art installations. A few months ago, some really striking and colourful new murals were unveiled in Corktown.
Situated on the pillars of the Adelaide Street underpass, the pieces called Frozen Moments were created by lead artist Shalak Attack with artistic collaborator Bruno Smoky and project assistant Fiya Bruxa of Essencia Art Collective. The project was funded by StreetARTToronto (StART), which provides artists the opportunity to create visual representations that contribute to the beautification of public spaces across the city while providing an alternative to unwanted graffiti vandalism.
Each of the four pillars highlight a different part of Corktown’s past including its First Nations history and the early migration of European settlers who helped build the neighbourhood.
You can also find more information about the project through their press release from the city’s website.
Be sure to stop by to see these stunning murals when you’re in the area!
